7. Overall Cost of Ownership

When deciding on a web site solution, you need to consider the overall cost of ownership.  You will see companies that advertise free or $1 domain names, but then other costs are expensive.  Another approach in the industry is to break everything down into separate pieces.  Hosting might be cheap, but once you add everything up, you are spending an arm and a leg.

When selecting a vendor or collection of vendors, the total cost of creating, hosting and maintaining your site needs to be considered.  At a minimum, consider:

  • Web site development
  • Addition development for forms or custom functionality
  • Making your site different from the competition
  • Hosting (including space and bandwidth)
  • Email
  • SEO
  • Maintenance - fixing that typo or adding new content
  • Maintenance - ensuring the site keeps working with each new version of browsers, computers, etc.
  • Backups

Industry Web Host prices are competitive, but we understand you can probably find a cheaper hosting provider.  However, when looking at the total cost of ownership for your site, our prices are hard to beat.
