Federal Government Community Site of Best Practices

The Transit Bus Safety and Security Program web site is a national repository for assisting for the public bus transportation industry. The FTA will use this site to provide effective and practical approaches based on the experience of bus transit providers and an ever-growing storehouse of information from research as well as effective practices developed by federal, state, local and educational partners.

The web site leverages open source packages to reduce the overall cost of the site and includes custom components to achieve the desired functionality that best serves its industry.  The site offers many interesting features:

• Ability to store, upload, download and browse industry best practices, forms and checklists along with registration for private areas.
• With the thousands of documents available, the site offers robust browsing and searching functionality enabling visitors to find the right resources.  The site offers the ability to search based on a combination of category hierarchies, document type hierarchies, geographic location.
• A most interesting portion of the site is the ability to perform self assessments.  The Self Assessment component enables authorized agency representatives to quickly focus on a specific aspect of their organization, answer a few questions and be presented with the best set of resources for improvement.
• Dynamic geographic mapping capability was developed to find representatives in other agencies.

Industry Web Host has done the primary development of the site while offering recommendations on the best course of action for usability cost and effectiveness.
